Daytona Beach, Fla. - A pair of freshman, Alana Martinez and Lauren Anastase aided the Eagles in gaining their final six points against Daemen University winning the bid into the third place match of the ERAU Labor Day Tournament. Embry Riddle topped DNU 3-0 at the ICI Center on Saturday afternoon (30-25, 30-16, 30-25).
With the Eagles victorious in the first two games, the third game was tied at 24, a long volley led to a huge block by Martinez and junior transfer Corey Dobridnia, that took away Daemen's momentum and led to two consecutive Martinez kills and another block assist by the duo. Up 28-25, Anastase was set up for the kill by Martinez and she followed in the next volley another kill to finish the game for the Eagles. Anastase matched team leader, Jenn Meglic with four kills in game three.
Meglic led the Eagles hitting .409, charting 11 kills and three serviece aces. Bridget Kirckof came off the bench to fill in at the libero position, charting 15 digs and two assists. Marissa Gonzales charted 33 assists and charting a service ace. Janelle Marinos and Savannah Trakes both tallied 10 kills.
