Daytona Beach, Fla. - A third place finish puts the Eagles record over .500 going into conference play, after a five-game win over William Jewell on Saturday afternoon at the ERAU Labor Day Tournament. The tournament was won by Morningside College of Sioux City, Iowa.
Both Marissa Gonzales and Jenn Meglic highlighted the All-Tournament team for the Eagles, with Amber Jarzynka of Morningside winning the MVP title. Meglic charted 15 kills in the third place match against William Jewell. Gonzales tallied 57 assists in the five game series.
The Eagles snuck by the Cardinals in game one, with ERAU down 26-28, Bridget Kirckof served four straight points after an momentum changing block by Meglic and Alana Martinez. Game three was the most grueling for both teams, remained within two points of being tied when the Cardinals pulled to within two of the Eagles at 14-12. The score was 36-35, Eagles lead, with a serve by Martinez and an attack by Lindsey Weisz of William Jewell was dug by Kirckof and set to Savannah Trakes who spiked the ball for the kill and an Eagle game lead of 2-1. Trakes was assisted by Gonzales.
In the final game the Cardinals went up 4-1, as Head Coach Joslynn Gallop called a time-out to regroup. Her team came out with the needed momentum to tie the game up at five. Martinez served the following three points, with Janelle Marinos charting two of her team leading 23 kills to increase the Eagles lead. With game-point for the Eagles, Gonzales's serve was returned to be attacked, and killed by Marinos to claim third place for the team.
Trakes charted 16 kills with six service aces. Marinos also charted 2 aces.

The Eagles will return to action on Friday, September 7 as they travel to Lake Wales, Fla., to face off against FSC opponent, Warner College.
