Seahawks Top Eagles in Five Games

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Freshman Alana Martinez marked five solo blocks against Northwood University, in the Eagles second conference loss of the season on Saturday, September 29, in a tough battle that went into five games.

Northwood started off strong, taking an early lead and match one 30-22. The Eagles came back in game two, leading 6-4, they held onto the lead for the rest of the game, evening out the game standings. ERAU out-hit NU in game two, going 16 for 41 (.244) while NU was only able to complete 12 of their 46 attempts (.065).

In game three the Eagles pulled away early, as Jenni Nelsen tallied three service aces early to give the home team the 9-5 lead. NWU tied the game at 10 and both teams battled back and forth for the lead. The score was tied 12 different times throughout game three. The Seahawks took the lead for good a 24-23 as Vivan Perez charted three of her 12 kills in the final plays of the game.

Janelle Marinos sped up her team's pace in game four, charting five kills in eight attempts, she aided the Eagles in their 30-20 victory, moving the match into game five.

Despite the ERAU momentum from game four, NU was able to take an early lead 5-1. Coach Joslynn Gallop called a timeout to regroup her team. The Eagles were able to win the next volley, but were unable to produce enough momentum to win the game. Northwood took the match with a 15-6 victory in game five.

Savannah Trakes notched 21 kills in the match, she also dug 10 attacks. Marissa Gonzales had 52 assists, ten digs, two kills and one service ace. Marinos completed the day with 13 kills and two service aces. Nelsen had five aces and eight kills in the match.

ERAU will return to action on Wednesday, in Savannah, Ga., where they will face FSC leader, Savannah College of Art & Design at 7:00p.m.
