Gonzales Leads Eagles Over Seahawks

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. ? Senior Marissa Gonzales led the Embry-Riddle Eagles volleyball team to their 19th win of the season, topping Northwood in three sets (25-19, 25-10, 25-13).

Gonzales had 26 assist in the match accompanied by six service aces and picked up 19 points in the match behind the service line, which included a ten point sequence in the third set.

The Eagles pulled ahead of the Seahawks in the first set as Jenni Nelsen served an ace to put her team up 13-11 and started a five point drive, going up 18-11. The Seahawks continued to threaten a comeback but were not able to produce more than a three point streak, as the Eagles won 25-19.

Gonzales led the Eagles to a 7-0 lead at the beginning of set two that included two aces. ERAU held NU to a negative hitting percentage in the set and took the win 25-10.

In set three, Gonzales continued her domination behind the service line as she served ten points that included four service aces to put the Eagles up 21-6 before Northwood regained possession. The Eagles kept the momentum from the beginning of the set and took the match on a kill by Alana Martinez off an assist by Kristen Hassett.

Martinez and Abby Hall combined for 20 kills, each with 10 they led the team. Hall picked up a double-double with 16 digs. Corey Dobridnia had seven kills in the match.

The Blue and Gold will continue their three game road trip in Miami Gardens, Fla. on Friday as they face off against Florida Memorial.
