LAKE WALES, Fla. ? The Embry-Riddle women's soccer team scored late in the second half to claim a 1-0 shutout against Warner Southern on the road on Tuesday. The shutout was the second in a row for the Eagles who improved to 7-5 overall and 5-2 in The Sun Conference.
The Eagles were the more dominant team offensively throughout the entire game. They outshot the Royals 15-4 and held a 15-0 advantage in corner kicks. Three of the Royals' four shots came in the first half, but their strategy changed in the second half as they played the majority of the half with all 11 players in the defensive third of the field.
The Embry-Riddle women did not deviate from their game plan despite going up against the bunker defense and finally broke through with just under five minutes left to play in the match.
The play started with
Coley Paladino who headed the ball to
Lindsey Evans on the run down the left side of the field. Evans dribbled into the box and got off a left-footed cross that went across the face of goal to Hirst who was inside the six-yard box, and Hirst's header went to the bottom left corner to give the Eagles the win.
The Eagles' next game will be at 7 p.m. on Friday when they travel to Savannah, Ga. to take on Savannah College of Art and Design.
