Eagles Fall to No.1 Lindsey Wilson, 2-0

COLUMBIA, Ky. ? Two first half goals lifted No.1 Lindsey Wilson to a 2-0 victory over the Embry-Riddle men's soccer team. The Eagles now stand at 7-5-2 overall, while the Blue Raiders collect their tenth shut-out of the season to improve to 12-1-1 overall.

Embry-Riddle came out aggressive, firing the first two shots of the game and earning four corner kicks in ten minutes. Their best scoring opportunity came in the 30th minute when Ryan Woods ripped a shot from 20 yards out, but an acrobatic save from goalkeeper Michael Smith kept the Eagles off the scoreboard.

Lindsey-Wilson increased the pressure in the latter part of the first period and began to utilize the speed of their outside forwards. Their first goal came in the 28th minute, when Nathaniel Jafta found Frederick Were set up inside the Eagles' six-yard box. Were fired a shot that hit the near post and rebounded in to the back of the net.

With 2:30 remaining on the clock, Embry-Riddle conceded goal number two. A cross from Were floated into the box to find Rasmus Jacobsen leaping above the defense. Jacobsen sent a header into the top of the net to put the Blue Raiders up 2-0.

Lindsey Wilson did not let up in the second half, holding a 10-1 advantage in shots, but despite the pressure, the Eagles' defense was able to keep the Blue Raiders from increasing their lead. Junior Michael Steffens made his debut in the Eagles' starting lineup and contributed a solid 90 minutes in the right back position.

Embry-Riddle played tough throughout the contest, but the strong defensive line of Lindsey-Wilson proved difficult to beat, resulting in the 2-0 loss.

The Eagles return to conference play on Tuesday when they face St. Thomas in Miami, Fla. A win over the Bobcats will solidify the third seed in the conference tournament.
