Eagles Fall to No. 11 SCAD 3-0

HARDEEVILLE, S.C. ? Selin Kuralay tallied a goal and two assists to lead the 11th-ranked Savannah College of Art and Design's women's soccer team to a 3-0 shutout of Embry-Riddle on Tuesday. The loss puts the Eagles at 7-6 overall and 5-3 in The Sun Conference, while the Bees improve to 10-4 overall and 8-1 in league play.

The Eagles faced numerous challenges in the contest, including playing in unfamiliar 40-degree weather. Injuries also took their toll on the Eagles, whose game plan changed slightly after central midfielder Lindsey Evans left the game for good due to an injury in the 14th minute.

Embry-Riddle regrouped and put up five shots to the Bees' eight in the first frame. The Eagles held a 4-3 edge in corner kicks, but it was the Bees who took a 1-0 lead into the halftime break after Kuralay played Melissa Feuerrigiel through and the Bees' leading scorer took advantage of a one-v-one chance with goalkeeper Brelyn Bingman.

The Eagles came out with a sense of urgency to start the second half. Ceclie Henrikssen's corner kick in the 49th minute fell to Elina Johansson in the box and Johansson's first-time shot clanged off the crossbar and back into play. Johansson got the rebound, but her second attempt was cleared off the line by the SCAD defense.

Six minutes after that series, the Bees won the ball off a throw in against the run of play and Kuralay played another through ball, this time to Amanda Barj on the run and Barj dribbled into the box and extended the lead to 2-0 with a low shot past Bingham.

Kuralay sealed the win in a goal of her own in the 75th minute.

Bingham finished the game with seven saves, while her SCAD counterpart, Rosanna Lamprey collected six in the win.

The Eagles will travel to West Palm Beach on Friday to take on No. 8 Northwood. Game time is slated for 3 p.m.
