SAVANNAH, Ga. ? November 15 will be a bittersweet memory for the three seniors on the Embry-Riddle Eagles volleyball team as an almost perfect season ended with loss to Webber International in the championship game of the conference tournament.
The Warriors outperformed the 2008 regular season champions, marking their first trip to the NAIA National Tournament as the conference's automatic bid. Webber marked 43 kills and hit a .248 to the Eagles .082 and 29 kills.
WIU built a four point lead early in sets one and two and were able to keep the points cushion throughout, as they took the first two matches, 25-18 and 25-15.
The Eagles came back from a five point deficit early in set three as three consecutive kills by
Abby Hall put the Eagles within one of the lead. The Eagles tied the game at 16 on a kill by
Alana Martinez and then took the lead. ERAU was up by two before Webber International called a timeout in attempt to regain the momentum. The Warriors tied the game up at 22 before regaining the lead, 23-22. The Eagles tied the game at 23 on a kill by
Lauren Anastase, but were not able to muster any momentum from the Warriors, losing set three 25-23.
Embry-Riddle's season ended with a 26-4 overall record and the program's first regular season conference championship.
