Eagles Continue Winning, Snap Colonel's Streak

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Embry-Riddle Eagles men's tennis team broke Eastern Kentucky's five game winning streak by handing the Colonels a 7-0 loss at the Ambassador William E. Crotty Tennis Complex on Wednesday.

The Eagles took the doubles point, winning all three matches, playing under NCAA DI rules. The combo of Mislav Hizak and Konstantin Lazarov took the first singles match against Lars Gratzki and Johannes John, 8-4, increasing their winning streak to eight consecutive matches. Jan Hoekzema and Istvan Bolder paired up for the first time this season, taking the No. 2 doubles in an 8-4 set. Carlos Bes Comeras and Tomoaki Yasuda were also paired up for the first time this season winning 8-5 over Mel Segota and Vadim Ivanis.

Hizak led the attack in singles with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Gratzki. It was Hizak's fifth win in the No. 1 slot for team in 2008. At No. 2 was Lazarov who finished Segota in a quick 6-2, 6-1 match. Bes Comeras, playing as the Eagles No. 3 single, won 6-3, 6-2 over John.

Hoekzema, Yasuda and Bolgar each moved their record to 5-0 in the fourth, fifth and sixth slots, respectively. Hoekzema won his match 6-3, 6-3 over Goncalves. Fontoura attempted to battle back in the second set against Yasuda but could not break the Eagle, as Yasuda won 6-1, 6-4. Bolgar topped Ivanis 6-2, 6-3.

The Blue and Gold will suit up again on Saturday as both the men and women's tennis teams will host Armstrong Atlantic at 1:00 p.m. The matches will be played at Ambassador William E. Crotty Tennis Complex on ERAU's campus.
