Eagle Men Improve to 8-1 With 9-0 Win Against Oklahoma Baptist
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. ? The Embry-Riddle men's tennis team rebounded from their first loss of the season on Saturday to shutout No. 21 Oklahoma Baptist 9-0, Monday at the Crotty Tennis Complex. The Eagles, ranked third in the most recent NAIA national poll, now stand at 8-1 on the year, while the Bison fall to 4-5.
Carlos Bes Comeras and Tomoaki Yasuda were the first doubles pair to complete their match with an 8-2 decision at No. 3. Mislav Hizak and Konstantin Lazarov were close behind as they defeated Bruno Scacalossi and Gustavo Schafer 8-2. Istvan Bolgar and Jan Hoekzema gave the Eagles a 3-0 advantage, downing Scott Milner and Andrew Sharp 8-3 on the second position.
After Bes Comeras' quick 6-1, 6-1 victory over McCorkle and No. 3 singles, Yasuda clinched the Eagle victory with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Sharp at No.5.
Luke Maricic extended his unbeaten dual match streak this season to three with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Canavan at the No. 6 spot. Hoekzema topped Schafer 6-1, 6-3 at No. 4, Hizak downed Scacalossi 6-4, 6-1 at No. 1 and Lazarov closed on the scoring with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Milner at No. 2.
The Eagles next match will be at 2 p.m. on Tuesday when they take on Drury at Embry-Riddle's Crotty Tennis Complex.
