BABSON PARK, Fla. ? The Embry-Riddle men's tennis team secured the program's sixth consecutive Florida Sun Conference regular season title with a pair of road wins on Wednesday. In their first match of the day, the third-ranked Eagles downed Webber International 5-0 and followed with a 5-0 win over Warner Southern to close out league play with a 5-0 record.
Against Webber International, the Eagles went up 3-0 after doubles play as Mislav Hizak and Konstantin Lazarov defeated Rafael Teixeira and Cody Wright 8-3, Jan Hoekzema and Istvan Bolgar downed Philippe Andermatt and Leigh Griffiths, and Carlos Bes Comeras and Tomoaki Yasuda blanked Oskar Sanchez-Chagollan and Chris Pinson 8-0.
After Hizak shutout Teixeira 6-0, 6-0, Bes Comeras scored the clincher at the clincher at the No. 3 singles spot, defeating Wright 6-1, 6-1. The Eagles held leads in the remaining singles matches, but those contests were cut short due to rain.
Rain also impacted Embry-Riddle's second match of the day, forcing the Eagles and the Warner Southern men to switch venues for their contest.
In addition to the change in venue, the Eagles also made changes to their line-up. Lazarov and Yasuda paired up for the first time this season to defeat Kyle Mahlon and Josh Shutts 8-0, while Hoekzema and Bolgar notched an 8-0 at the No. 2 spot. A Royal default at No. 3 doubles gave the Eagles a 3-0 lead heading into singles play.
Luke Maricic saw dual match action for the fifth time this season and, playing in his first match at the No. 2 singles spot, he blanked Mahlon 8-0.
Alex Perez made his Embry-Riddle dual match debut at the No. 1 spot and took full advantage of the opportunity, downing Shutts 8-1 to clinch the win.
The Eagles are now 12-2 on two on the year and will return to action at 2 p.m. on Saturday when they travel to Boca Raton to take on sixth-ranked NCAA II foe Lynn.
