ERAU Women Win Two, Finish Second in FSC

BABSON PARK, Fla. ? The ninth-ranked Embry-Riddle women's tennis team wrapped up second place in the Florida Sun Conference with a pair of league victories on the road on Wednesday. The Eagles blanked Webber International 6-0 in their first game of the day and dispatched Warner Southern 9-0 in the night cap.

The Eagles won all three doubles points with Natasa Zoricic and Hana Im topping Charlotte Alriksson and Saana Sysimetsa 8-5, Natalie Anaya and Lindsey Kurtz downing Kammie Bilardello and Colene Alexis 8-3, and Sara Abraúl and Marga Rico Jimenez shutout Aleksandra Milosevka and Isabella Sevelius 8-0.

Rain prevented the completion of three of the six singles matches. Embry-Riddle dropped only two games in the three matches that were played as Rico Jimenez defeated Yini Esquillin 6-1, 6-0, Im blanked Sysimetsa 6-0, 6-0 and Anaya scored the clincher with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Bilardello.

The inclement weather also forced a change of venue and shortened matches for the Warner Southern contest. Zoricic and Im and Kurtz and Anaya registered 8-0 shutouts at the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles spots and Abraúl and Rico Jimenez won their doubles contest 8-1 at the third spot.

Five of the six singles matches ended in 8-0 victories in favor of the Eagles. The only exception was at the No. 3 spot where Maria Hartsock retired after falling behind 5-0 to Anaya.

The Eagles are now 10-4 overall and 4-1 in the FSC. They continue their six-match road swing with a 2 p.m. contest against third-ranked Lynn on Saturday.
