Fla. ? The Embry-Riddle Eagles
volleyball team opened up the 2008 season with a win over the Southeastern
Fire, 3-0 (25-11, 25-17, 25-18).
Freshman Abby Hall led the team in her rookie debut, marking
19 kills (.586) with four service aces and 11 digs. Marissa Gonzales fed her each
of the kills in 19 of her 40 total assists in the match.
The Eagles attacked for a .451 hitting percentage on the day (48 for
91 attempts) with only seven errors. Gonzales (four), Alana Martinez
(seven), Hall, Jenni Nelsen (six), Savannah Trakes (eight) and Corey Dobridnia (four) all
contributed to the total kills.
Dobridnia led the team with three block assists and was
followed by Nelsen who had two.
ERAU held SEU to a .108 hitting percentage digging up 42 of
the Fire's attack attempts.
The Blue and Gold will step on the court again on Friday and
Saturday, August 29-30 for the Homewood Suites Invitational hosted by the
Eagles at the ICI
Center. The Eagles will play their matches on Friday at 2:30 and 6 p.m. On Saturday, ERAU will play at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m.
