Eagles Improve to 2-0 in League Play With 82-73 Win Over SCAD

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. ? Senior Tyler DeBord recorded his sixth double-double to lead the ninth-ranked Embry-Riddle men's basketball team to an 82-73 win over Savannah College of Art and Design, Saturday at the ICI Center. The win was the second for the Eagles in a very competitive Sun Conference slate and they are now 16-2 on the year and 2-0 in league play.

DeBord, who pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds, finished the night with 18 points, as did Denver Cobb and SCAD's Rommell Witherspoon. Glenn Dalcourt added 17 points, six rebounds and five steals, while Eric Lorenzi rounded out the Eagles scorers in double figures with 13.

The first four minutes of play saw five ties and two lead changes before jumpers by Danny Krazit and Glenn Dalcourt  and a layup by Tyler DeBord gave the Eagles an 11-5 lead with 14:28 to go in the first half. A pair of three-pointers by Mihajlo Crnogorac knotted the score at 13-13 and for the next seven minutes both teams traded baskets  with neither team leading by more than three points during that stretch.

Another Dalcourt lay-up sparked an 11-4 Eagle run and the Eagles took a 43-38 lead into the half.

The Eagles built their lead up to as many as 10 points to start the second half, but the Bees capitalized on six Eagle turnovers in a four-minute stretch to pull to within two and eventually tied the game for the ninth time with 11:38 left on the clock.

Over the next two and a half minutes of play, the Bees turned the ball over three times and converted on only one of four attempts from the field. The Eagles, on the other hand, went 3-for-3 from the field, including a Cobb three-pointer, and 2-for-2 from the charity stripe to take a 10-point lead once again.

SCAD battled back to cut the lead to 75-73 with 3:07 left to play, but the Eagles, who made 36 trips to the free throw line to SCAD's 15, converted on all but one of their nine trips to the charity stripe down the stretch to pull out the nine-point win.

Crnogorac finished with 15 points and Christian Moore contributed 14 points off the bench for the Bees, who are now 12-6 overall and 0-2 in The Sun Conference.

The Eagles return to the court at 7 p.m. on Wednesday when they host Florida Memorial at the ICI Center.
