Saints Down Eagles, 2-0

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle men's soccer was unable to overcome a pair of first half goals and fell 2-0 to Flagler, Wednesday at Flagler Field. The Saints are now 5-3-1 on the year, while the Eagles fall to 6-3-1.

In typical Flagler/Embry-Riddle fashion, the game was played at a high level of intensity, showing that although no longer vying for the same conference title, the rivalry was still quite strong. The intensity led to very physical play that resulted in 19 fouls, five yellow cards and one red card.

The first 29 minutes saw both teams come close to hitting the mark with shots glancing off the cross bar or skipping just wide of the mark. The Saints finally broke the deadlock in the 30th minute on a set piece. After a short corner by Connor Killeen, the ball bounced around the box before falling to Pol Berenguer who lifted his first shot of the game into the upper left corner.

Less than six minutes later, the Saints found the back of the net again as Killeen's cross found its way to Greg Taafe who put Flagler up by 2-0 with a strike to the lower left corner.

With just over 30 minutes left in the contest, the Saints were forced to play a man down after Killeen received a red card for a flagrant foul.  The Eagle offense tried to make the most of the advantage but the Saints' defense managed to hold them at bay to preserve the win.

The Eagles' next game will be 7 p.m. on Saturday when they travel to Ft. Lauderdale to take on NCAA II Nova Southeastern.
