DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle men's soccer team scored twice in the first half to secure a 2-0 victory over Savannah College of Art and Design in Sun Conference action on Saturday. The Eagles improved their overall record 8-3-2 on the year and moved to 3-0-2 in the conference. The Bees, who topped the conference standings coming into tonight's contest, fall to 7-3-2 overall and 4-1-1 in league play.
Most of the play was through the midfield in the opening minutes as each team tried to establish possession. Josiah Millar registered the first shot of the contest in the seventh minute, but it was the Eagles who were able to score on their first shot of the game.
Michael Donald won the ball in the back immediately put the Eagles on offense with a long ball across the midfield.
Ryan Maloney was able to run on to it and send a cross from the right side into the box. The ball took a slight deflection off a SCAD defender before falling to
Ryan Woods who buried his fifth goal of the year in the upper right corner to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead in the 14th minute.
The Eagles' second goal came on another counter attack after 16 minutes of possession, most of which was held by the Bees. Woods started the play after winning the ball from Millar in the Eagles' 18-yard box and sent a ball out to
Luke Baker on the right. Baker played the ball down the line to Maloney who easily diffused a three-on-one situation with a deft touch. Once again, Maloney was able to get a cross into the box, but this time it was
Phil Middleton on the run who beat SCAD keeper Robbie Wright to the upper left corner to extend the lead to 2-0.
Both teams continued to try to establish possession again in the second half in an attempt to find the back of the net. Each team came close with Pato Torello's shot hitting the cross bar for SCAD and Wright coming up with a pair of key saves to keep the Eagles from adding to their tally. But in the end, neither squad was able to find the mark in the second frame, resulting in the 2-0 final score.

The Eagles return to the pitch at 7 p.m. on Tuesday to host defending Sun Conference champion Northwood at the Embry-Riddle Soccer Stadium.
