LIVONIA, Mich. -- The Embry-Riddle volleyball team fell to No. 18 Madonna (22-25, 15-25, 25-22, 19-25) in their first match of the day at the 2009 Crusader Classic, but picked up a three-set win over Michigan-Deaborn in their second match (25-23, 25-10, 25-20) to end the first day of play with a 1-1 record.
The Eagles took Madonna to four in the opening match of the tournament, taking one set from the No. 18 ranked team in the nation, but were unable to hold on as the Crusaders finished the match on top.
Abby Hall led all hitters with an impressive 20 kills, while also contributing 8 digs, and Julia Frassetto dug her way to a career-high 30 digs in the loss.
The second match of the day saw the Eagles defeat the Wolves of Michigan-Dearborn, 3-0, with Hall and Jordan Holcomb leading the Eagle attack with 12 kills apiece. Taylor Martin picked up nine kills in the win and Frassetto added 21 digs from the backrow.
The Eagles overall record moves to 19-6, while their conference record remains at 15-0.
The Eagles will play No. 20 Taylor University at 9:30 a.m. tomorrow, followed by an 11:30 a.m. match against Indiana Wesleyan to close out play at the Crusader Classic. ERAU will then head back to Daytona Beach, Fla. to host the SCAD Bees and Edward Waters Tigers on Oct. 30-31 before closing out conference action against Southeastern on Nov. 7.
