Embry-Riddle Survives St. Thomas 2-1

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. - For the fifth straight game the ERAU women's soccer squad emerged with a 2-1 win on Sunday, edging the Bobcats of St. Thomas on the road. The Eagles improved their overall record to 7-4 on the year, while remaining undefeated in conference play with a 4-0 mark. STU's record dropped to 2-7-1 overall and 1-3-1 in The Sun Conference.

Neither team struck home with a score until the 21st minute when ERAU's Hanna Lundqvist rocketed a rebounded ball into the Bobcat goal for the 1-0 lead. The score was Lundqvist's eight of the season.

The Eagles and Bobcats failed to score the rest of the first half as they entered the break with a 1-0 advantage for the Blue and Gold.

The Eagles looked to be in control early in the second half as junior Elina Johansson scored her 12th goal of the season to put Embry-Riddle ahead 2-0 in the 59th minute. Lundqvist fed Johansson the ball in front of the net and Johansson put the ball into the top right corner of the net for the score.

Only two minutes later STU responded with a Tonya Uber penalty kick that shot past goalie Dina Roper to bring the Bobcats within one and end the shutout.

ERAU's defense held the rest of the way for the result as Roper made three saves in the contest compared to STU's Victoria Shahbaz's five saves.

Embry-Riddle outshot the Bobcats 19-12, as well as holding the slim edge in corner kicks, 8-7.

The Eagles return to Daytona Beach to host SCAD on Wednesday at the Embry-Riddle Soccer Stadium as both teams look to take control of the Sun Conference leaderboard. Game time is set for 6:00 p.m.
