Eagles Advance to Conference Semis With Decisive 101-74 Win Over Webber International

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. ? The fourth-seeded Embry-Riddle men's basketball team shot 60.3 percent from the field and 55.6 percent from beyond the arc to claim a decisive 101-74 win over No. 5 Webber International (19-10) in the quarterfinals of The Sun Conference Tournament on Tuesday.  With the win the Eagles, now 23-8, advance to the semifinal round where they will face eighth-seeded Edward Waters who registered a 68-56 upset of top-seed Northwood.

The Eagles had five players in double figures as they hit the century mark for the second time this season. Tyler DeBord led all scorers with 21 points, while Denver Cobb and Eric Lorenzi scored 18 and 16 points, respectively. Ray Graham contributed 13 points off the bench.

Senior Danny Deaver was inserted into the starting line-up for the first time in his Embry-Riddle career and made the most of the opportunity, tallying 13 points, which included four three pointers. Deaver's offensive performance also marked his highest point total against a conference opponent.

In the first half, the Warriors were the hotter team offensively shooting 69.2 percent from the field compared to Embry-Riddle's 58.6 percent. Both teams shot 66.7 percent from behind the three-point line with ERAU going 6-9 and WIU going 4-6. The Eagles held a slight advantage at the charity stripe, going 6-for-6, while the Warriors converted on their only attempt from the free throw slight. Those five points proved to be the difference in the half as the Eagles went in the locker room with a 46-41 lead at the half.

The Eagles set a blistering pace to start the second half, outscoring the Warriors 18-7 in the first six minutes to take a 66-48 lead. The offensive success gave rise to a strong defensive effort that limited the Warriors to just 31.3 percent shooting in the second half and just 1-for-10 from beyond the arc.

The Warriors managed to cut the lead to 13 with 12:15 left to play, but that is as close as they would get. Denver Cobb hit one of his two-three pointers at the 11:33 mark and that sparked a 15-4 run that allowed the Blue and Gold to build its lead up to 24. The Warriors scored on the next possession, but they were unable to stop the Eagles who led by as many as 29 before closing out the 27-point win

Brandon Streeter totaled 17 points for the Warriors who, for the second year in a row, closed out their season with a loss to the Eagles.

The semifinals will take place on Friday and will be hosted by St. Thomas who won its semifinal match-up against Savannah College of Art and Design, 66-64. The Eagles' game against Edward Waters will get underway at 5 p.m. followed by St. Thomas taking on Warner at 7 p.m. Warner advanced with an 89-80 win over Florida Memorial.
