DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. ? A day after suffering its first loss of the season to Armstrong Atlantic, the Barry men's tennis team rebounded to take an 8-1 win over Embry-Riddle on Saturday. The Buccaneers, ranked No. 1 in the NCAA II national polls, are now 12-1 on the year, while the Eagles move to 8-2 overall.
The Eagles suffered their first loss of the day at No. 3 doubles as
Peter Francis and
Istvan Bolgar fell to Roman Werschel and Sergio Velez. But the ERAU doubles team of
Carlos Bes Comeras and
Jan Hoekzema tied the score at 1-1 with an 8-6 victory over Max Wimmer Emanuel Fraitzl at the top spot.
The contest at No. 2 doubles was a tight match and in the end, it was the Barry team of Ales Svigelj and Andrew Sharnov that pulled out the 9-7 win over
Adrian Bayh and
Charlie Rice to give the Buccaneers a 2-1 lead heading into singles.
Bayh and Rice managed to win their respective first sets, but were unable to sustain the advantage as the Buccaneers swept through all six singles matches to take the win.
