Women's Tennis Downs Georgetown (Ky.) 8-1

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. ? Coming off a tough loss to NCAA II No. 15 Barry on Saturday, the Embry-Riddle women's tennis team returned to the win column with an 8-1 victory over NAIA No. 25 Georgetown (Ky.) on Monday. The Eagle women swept through all three doubles and won five of six singles points to improve their overall record to 4-5 on the year.

The Eagles quickly went up 3-0 posting three convincing doubles wins as Natasa Zoricic and Hana Im defeated Adrienne Bartlett and Emily Yenick 8-3, Mathilda Engstrom and Julija Sotjkovska downed Sarah Yost and Bianca Rugimbana 8-3, and Sara Abraul and Marga Rico Jimenez topped Charis Gambill and Megan Watts 8-4.

Zoricic was the first to finish her singles match, dispatching Bartlett 6-1, 6-0. Im followed closely behind, scoring the clincher with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Yenick at the No. 2 position.

The Tigers (1-4) avoided the shutout when Rugimbana pulled out a three-set win (6-1, 4-6, 10-1) over Engstrom at No. 4.

Stojkovska, Rico Jimenez and Abraul were also straight set winners, winning matches at the third, fifth and sixth spots, respectively.


The Eagle women play their second match of the week against 12th-ranked Southern Nazarene at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at the Crotty Tennis Complex.
