DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. ? The Embry-Riddle women's tennis team earned its second Sun Conference win of the season with a convincing 9-0 win over Webber International (1-4, 2-14) at Embry-Riddle's Crotty Tennis Complex on Wednesday. The Eagles surrendered just five games throughout the three doubles and six singles matches combined to improve their league record to 2-1 and their overall mark to 6-6.
The Eagles raced out to an early 3-0 lead as the doubles teams of
Natasa Zoricic and
Hana Im and
Sara Abraul and
Marga Rico Jimenez turned in 8-0 victories over their foes at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions, respectively.
Julija Stojkovska and Mathilda Engstrom completed the doubles sweep with an 8-4 win over Yini Esquilin and Aleks Milosevska.
In singles action, the Eagle women recorded shutouts at five of the six singles spots. Im was the first to finish her match with a 6-0, 6-0 over Esquilin at No. 2. Zoricic was not far behind as her straight set shutout of Leila Marquet scored the clinching point for the Blue and Gold. Rico Jimenez, Abraul and Stojkovska each breezed through their singles contests, and Engstrom closed out the scoring with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Xiong at No. 6.
The Eagles return to the court at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday when they host another Sun Conference opponent, Northwood, at the Crotty Tennis Complex.
