DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - For the second game in a row, the Embry-Riddle women's soccer team failed to capitalize on opportunities, dropping their home opener to Nova Southeastern 2-0. The game was truly a tale
of two halves, as the Eagles controlled possession for the majority of
the first half and battled the Sharks to a 0-0 half time draw. ERAU
held the advantage in shots during the first period with five, three of
which came from junior
Elina Johansson. Goalkeeper
Dina Roper made
three saves in the first half to match her NSU counterpart.
The second half seemed to start similarly to the previous half.
However, just five minutes into the second frame, the Sharks' Andrea
Camere struck a hard ball at Roper who made a great save but failed to
hold on to the ball and it rebounded right back to Camere who placed it
into the back of the net for a 1-0 lead.
Exactly two minutes later, the Sharks struck again, this time with a
great move from Elizabeth Brauher who beat two defenders to chip it
over Roper's head to account for the final tally of 2-0. Both goals by
the Sharks were unassisted.
Roper finished the game with eight saves in the loss and Johansson
tallied four shots for the Eagles who move to 0-2 on the season.
Next up for the Eagles is Shorter College on Saturday (Sept. 5) in the
first game of a men's and women's doubleheader. Game time for the women
is 5 p.m.
