DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Sophomore
Abby Hall led the Eagles to a 3-0 (25-22, 25-20, 28-26) victory over the Webber International Warriors, tallying a season-high 22 kills Friday night at the ICI Center.
The Eagles opened the match with a 3-0 lead over the Warriors, with Hall scoring the first point of the set with a kill assisted by Adriana Vazquez. The Eagles maintained a steady lead until WIU's Julianna Doughtery served six straight points for the Warriors, bringing her team within one point of the Eagles. Freshman Jordan Holcomb halted the Warriors' run with her sixth kill of the game and Hall closed out the set with three kills in the final three points, guiding the Eagles to a 25-22 win.
The Eagles hit .333 in the second set, totaling 15 kills in only 36 attempts, while notching three service aces to secure the 25-20 win over the Warriors. Hall tallied nine more kills, hitting .643 for the set. Holcomb and Rebecca Heller blocked WIU's Kerry Romaniszyn in the final two points of the set before a Warrior attack error gave the Eagles their second win on the night.
The Warriors weren't giving up that easy, as they picked up the intensity in the third set. The final set of the match saw the lead change 10 times, with the Eagles coming out on top. A Warrior service ace tied the game at 22-22, but the Eagles gained the lead back after an attack error by WIU. The two teams battled back and forth for the lead in the final points, but the Eagles' offense was too much for the Warriors to handle, as Hall's 22nd kill of the night closed out the match, 28-26, for the Blue and Gold.
Hall led all hitters with 22 kills and 11 digs, while Holcomb contributed 12 kills, 10 digs and three service aces for the Eagles. Julia Frassetto picked up 14 digs and the Eagles' setter Vazquez notched 44 assists in the three-set victory.
The Eagles are now 8-1 overall and maintain their unblemished conference record with five wins and no losses. Tomorrow afternoon the Eagles will host conference foe, Warner University, at 2 p.m. in the ICI Center.
