CLEVELAND, Tenn. -- The Eagles' volleyball team closed out day one with an 0-3 loss to the Lee Flames in their second match of the Lee Invitational.
The Eagles struggled to get into a rhythm in set one, as the Flames held the Blue and Gold to just nine points. Lee tallied nine kills and no errors, while blocking four Eagle attacks, giving them the advantage in the first set.
Set two opened similarly, as the Eagles continued to struggle to find the court, tallying only five kills, compared to the Flames' 12. LU outhit ERAU in the second set and capitalized on Eagle mistakes, allowing Lee to finish on top at 25-7.
ERAU picked up the intensity in set three, as Lauren Anastase stepped up to lead the offense with five kills. Senior Rebecca Heller started the third set as the Eagles' libero and picked up seven digs for the Blue and Gold. Although the third set saw the Eagles battling back and forth with the Flames through the final points of the set, Lee was able to close out the match, 26-24, to defeat Embry-Riddle in three.
Anastase led Eagle hitters with eight kills, while Jordan Holcomb and Abby Hall contributed five and four, respectively. Heller led the defense with eight digs.
The Eagles are now 9-3 overall and remain at 6-0 in conference play. They take on No. 15 ranked Lubbock Christian, who went 2-0 on day one of the Invitational, at 11:15 a.m. tomorrow morning.
