Eagles Fall to No. 15 Lubbock Christian

CLEVELAND, Tenn. -- Despite taking one set from No. 15 Lubbock Christian, the Embry-Riddle volleyball team couldn't hold on in their final day at the Lee Invitational, falling to the Lady Chaps, 3-1, Saturday afternoon at the Walker Arena.

The Eagles dropped the first set 25-19, as LCU's outside hitter Kelsey Odell notched four kills and guided her team to a first set victory.

The Eagles played their strongest  in set two, hitting .379 for the set and charting 13 kills, compared to the Chaps' nine. Abby Hall led the way with six kills, while Jordan Holcomb added four. The Blue and Gold held LCU to just 13 points in the second set and seemed poised heading into the third set.

The Chaps fought back in the third set and proved their No. 15 ranking, as they closed out the set on top, 25-22. 

LCU's Bailey Jones was hot in the fourth set, converting on seven of her 12 attempts for the Chaps. The Eagles battled for a chance to take control, but the Chaps were able to open the set with a 3-0 lead and never look back, taking the set and match, 25-18.

The Eagles were led by Holcomb, who charted 16 kills, 11 digs, and four service aces. Hall picked up 14 kills and nine digs for the Eagles, while Taylor Martin notched her best performance wearing the Blue and Gold, racking up 12 kills and 11 digs. Julia Frassetto led the defensive hold with 18 digs and Adriana Vazquez recorded 48 assists for the Eagles.

The Eagles head back to Daytona Beach, Fla. with a drive to defeat conference opponents SCAD and Edward Waters on Fri., Sept. 25 and Sat., Sept 26, after picking up three losses at the Lee Invitational in Cleveland, Tenn. The Eagles are now 9-4 overall and remain 6-0 in conference play.
