SALISBURY, N.C. – The Embry-Riddle women's soccer team closed out its North Carolina road trip with a 2-0 victory over NCAA II Catawba, Sunday at Frock Field.
Elina Johansson registered a goal and an assist as the Eagles improved their record to 3-4 overall.
In the 42nd minute,
Mandy Drummond won the ball in the Indians' defensive third and got the ball to
Elina Johansson. Johansson's first touch found Drummond on the run and the senior defender took the ball through a pair of Catawba defenders into the box and hit a low ball into the lower left corner of the goal to put the Eagles up 1-0.
The Indians had the better of the possession in the second frame, but it was the Eagles who managed to net the only goal of the half. In the 52nd minute, Catawba goalkeeper Webster got a hand to Cecilie Henrikssen's corner kick, but was unable to clear it out of the six-yard box. In the scramble that ensued, Johansson was able to collect the ball and drive home her sixth goal of the season to seal the Eagle win.
Sophomore
Dina Roper and freshman
Lauren Gallant split time in goal for the Blue and Gold, playing 45 minutes apiece. Roper collected five saves, while Gallant finished with four saves. Chelsea Binder and Webster had one save each for the Indians, who are now 4-2-1 on the year.
The Eagles open conference play at 7 p.m. on Friday when they host Warner at the Embry-Riddle Soccer Stadium.
