Embry-Riddle Shuts Out Webber International 7-0

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The 2009 Embry-Riddle women's soccer team is starting to find their groove, both offensively and on defense. The Eagles (5-4, 2-0) did not allow a score as their offense netted seven goals to beat the Warriors (4-3-1, 1-1) from Webber International 7-0 on Sunday at the Embry-Riddle Soccer Stadium. The Blue and Gold moved to 2-0 in the Sun Conference as the Warriors fell to 1-1.

Webber came into Sunday's game 4-2-1 after an emotional win over SCAD in Savannah, Ga. on Friday night. However, it was the Eagles that came out fast and furious. Elina Johansson scored the first goal of the game after Krizzy Menez put a ball across the box for Johansson to hammer home in the 14th minute of the first half.

Less than eight minutes later Madeleine Edbom beat a couple of Warrior defenders and placed the ball in front of the goalie for Johansson to tap home for her second goal of the match.

Menez and Johansson hooked up again in the 27th minute when Menez made a great pass across the right side of the field to a streaking Johansson for her to complete her hat trick, her second of the season. Johansson has 11 goals on the year to go along with six assists.

The Blue and Gold scored once more before the half, as senior Kristen Phelps led Gracie Peters with a ball which Peters ripped from just outside the penalty box for her first score of the year.

Phelps started the second half with a goal in the 49th minute when defender Chloe Cowart shot a ball up field for Phelps who ran past the Warrior defense and put the ball in the top right corner of the net.

Edbom and freshman Nicole Bonk also scored their first goals of the season in the 70th and 86th minutes respectively with assists coming from Hanna Lundqvist and Allison Schultz.

Dina Roper and Lauren Gallant split time in the net for ERAU with four saves between them.

The Eagles will travel to Miami, Fla. this weekend to take on Florida Memorial (Oct. 2) and St. Thomas (Oct. 4).
