DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. –
Alexis Pradie's two-goal night lifted the Embry-Riddle men's soccer team to a 4-1 win over Shorter, Saturday at the Embry-Riddle Soccer Stadium. Pradie scored once in each half to help the Eagles improve their overall record to 3-1 on the year.
The Eagles dominated the play from the first whistle, outshooting the Hawks 9-4 in the first frame, but it was Shorter who scored the first goal of the match against the run of play in the 19th minute. Kyle Timberlake ran onto a ball played over the top of the Eagle defense and his shot banged off the post and slipped past ERAU netminder
Viktor Bergstrand into the back of the net to make the score 1-0 in favor of the visiting Hawks.
Shorter maintained its one-goal lead until the Eagles drew a foul about 10 yards outside the penalty box in the 36th minute.
Ryan Woods took the ensuing free kick and lifted a high ball across the box where
JL Wilson was waiting. Wilson's header from point blank range was stopped by Shorter goalkeeper Michael Bruce, but Bruce couldn't coral the rebound and Pradie was on hand to head home his second goal of the season and tie the game.
With 3:51 left in the first half,
Sam Litchfield - facing his own goal - managed to play a long ball over the midfield to release
Ryan Maloney. With no one but the goalkeeper to beat, Maloney raced toward the goal. Shorter defender Anthony Garro chased Maloney down, but was judged to foul Maloney once he caught up with him inside the penalty box. Maloney took the resulting penalty kick and his low drive beat Bruce to put the Eagles up 2-1 heading into the halftime break.
The Eagles' third goal of the match came on another Woods set piece. Woods started the play at midfield that led to an Eagle corner kick and then went to take the corner kick himself. He swung another high ball into the box and Pradie rose to meet it, heading home his second goal of the night.
The fourth goal started in the midfield with a
Fredrik Elgstrom pass to Maloney. Elgstrom continued his run and Maloney's touch pass on the give-and-go allowed Elgstrom to fly, virtually uncontested down the center of the pitch and into the box where he slotted home his first goal of the year to seal the win.
Bruce finished with six saves on the night as the Hawks fell to 2-2 on the year. Bergstrand collected two saves in his 90 minutes between the pipes.
The Eagles next match will be at 7 p.m. on Tuesday when they host league newcomer Johnson & Wales (Fla.) at the Embry-Riddle Soccer Stadium.
