Eagles' Offense Explodes in 7-0 Win

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Embry-Riddle women's soccer team won its first game of the 2009 season Saturday night when they scored seven goals en route to a 7-0 victory over Shorter in front of a home crowd at the Embry-Riddle Soccer Stadium. The Eagles had struggled offensively in their first two games; not scoring a goal in either contest, but scoring was not a problem against the Hawks.

Just five and a half minutes into the game junior Elina Johansson received a pass from freshman Krizzy Menez and buried the ball in the back of the net to put the Eagles up 1-0.

Sophomore Cecilie Henriksen added the second goal of the season in the 17th minute by chipping the ball over Shorter goalkeeper Taylor Hays to increase the lead 2-0, Johansson assisted on the goal.

Just 11 minutes passed before the Eagles were on the attack again. This time, it was freshman Hanna Lundqvist who scored her first career goal off a ball from Johansson at the 28:07 mark to give Coach Samantha Baggett Bohon and her team a 3-0 lead at halftime.

The second half saw much of the same action as the first with Johansson and Lundqvist adding two more goals apiece to attain a hat trick for each of the Sweden natives. Johansson ended the match with three goals and four assists, totaling 10 points for the Blue and Gold.

Goalkeeper Dina Roper played all 90 minutes and saved four shots for Embry-Riddle. The Eagles outshot the Hawks 20-8 on the night. ERAU moved to 1-2 with the win, while Shorter fell to 0-3 on the season.

The Eagles travel to St. Augustine to play longtime rival Flagler on Wednesday evening (Sept. 9) at 7 p.m.
