No. 6 Eagles Tame Lions 73-62

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle men's basketball team notched its 14th consecutive win with a 73-62 defeat of Sun Conference foe Florida Memorial, Friday at Embry-Riddle's ICI Center. The sixth-ranked Eagles are now 17-3 on the year and are undefeated in the league at 6-0.

The Eagles got off to a fast start as Blake Touchard hit a three-pointer and two free throws and Danny Krazit nailed a long-range shot of his own to give the Eagles an 8-2 lead.  After scoring on each of their first three possessions, the Eagles' play turned sloppy over the next five minutes as four turnovers and four missed shots allowed the Lions to get back into the game and take a five-point (15-10) lead at the 13:37 mark.

Following an uncontested dunk by Matthew Rolle, ERAU head coach Steve Ridder called a 30-second timeout in an effort to help his team regain its focus and his words of encouragement proved effective as the Eagles returned the floor and rattled off 10 unanswered points to move ahead 20-15 with 11:15 left to play.

Florida Memorial continued to pressure the Eagles and cut the lead to two, but the Blue and Gold went on a 12-7 run to close out the first half with a 36-31 lead.

The Eagles took better care of the basketball to start the second half and a more concerted effort on the offensive boards helped ERAU increase its advantage to 11 points (48-37) with 15:02 left to play. Led by Eric Lorenzi's 12 second-half points, the Eagle margin grew to a many as 15 points before emerging with the 11-point victory.

Lorenzi led all scorers with 20 points and was one rebound shy of a double-double, finishing with five rebounds on the night. The Eagle bench contributed 28 points, led by 15 from David Butler who also had six boards, two assists and two blocks. Touchard turned in a good all-around performance with 12 points, eight assists and four steals.

Jason Anthony was the leading scorer for the Lions with 19, while George Gray added 12 as Florida Memorial falls to 4-16 overall and 2-4 in the conference standings.

The Eagles return to action tomorrow night at 7 p.m. when they host St. Thomas in the third annual Coaches vs. Cancer game. Prior to the Eagles' game, four high school teams will square off as part of the inaugural Coaches vs. Cancer Classic. The First Academy will take on Miami Southwest at 3 p.m. followed by Father Lopez vs. Coral Springs Christian Academy at 5 p.m.
