No. 12 Eagles Earn 15th Straight Win

SAVANNAH, Ga. - The No. 12 Embry-Riddle volleyball team extended its winning streak to 15 matches with a 3-1 win (25-15, 17-25, 25-14, 25-20) over SCAD Savannah on Friday night. With the win the Eagles improve to 18-1 on the season and 7-0 in conference play, while the Bees fall to 9-9 overall, 5-2 in conference play.

Playing in front of a packed gym, the Eagles and Bees opened play very even. With ERAU leading 13-12, Jordan Holcomb served six consecutive points to open up a seven-point lead. Embry-Riddle would go on to close out the set, 25-15.

In the second set, SCAD bounced back, taking an early 7-1 lead. A Holcomb kill followed by four straight SCAD errors cut the deficit to 7-5, but the Bees responded with a 9-4 run to take a commanding 16-9 advantage. ERAU was able to cut the lead to as little as four points, but SCAD held on for a 25-17 win to even the match at one set apiece.

The third set saw the Eagles use a 7-2 run to establish a 15-8 lead. Thanks to 11 SCAD errors in the set, Embry-Riddle would take the set, 25-14, taking a 2-1 lead in the match.

In the fourth set, SCAD showed signs of bouncing back to even the match again, as they had done in the second set. The Bees won the first four points of the set, taking an early 5-1 lead. But the Eagles chipped away at the lead, tying the set at 7-7. ERAU moved in front by as many as three (12-9), but SCAD rallied to tie things at 13-13. From that point, the Eagles rattled off five straight points, capped by a Morgan Shattuck kill. The Bees would get within three points at 23-20, but an attack error followed by a block by Shattuck and Adriana Vazquez clinched the set, 25-20, and the match, 3-1.

Holcomb led the Eagles with nine kills to go along with eight digs, four service aces and three blocks, while Abby Hall added eight kills and seven digs. Taylor Martin chipped in with eight kills and four aces as well. Vazquez tallied a match-high 30 assists and Nina Kontrec recorded a match-high 11 digs.

The Bees tandem of Olympia Haney and Jen Drouin each registered a match-high 12 kills. Haney added seven digs and Drouin tallied four blocks.

The Eagles return to action tomorrow afternoon as they travel to Aiken, S.C. to pay a visit to NCAA II USC-Aiken. The match is set to begin at 2 p.m.
