GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- In their second meet of the 2010 season, the Eagles hit seven qualifying marks and set five new ERAU records at the 3rd annual Jimmy Carnes Invitational on the campus of University of Florida, Jan. 30-31.
On the men's side, Spencer Wade vaulted his way to a second place finish and an "A" standard height of 4.75m, besting his very own school record. Evans Kirwa raced to a first place finish overall and crossed the finish line in 8:42.49 in the 3000m, good for an "A" standard as well. Sam Vazquez clocked in at 4:15.40 and took home third place in the mile event, also securing himself a spot at the NAIA National Championship.
Multi-event competitor Craig Milliard had a successful weekend, breaking a school record in the heptathlon, while Kyle Albrecht continues to be a threat in the throwing events, as he threw a personal best 14.28m in the weight throw.
For the women, Samia Adan hit her second qualifying mark as an Eagle, clocking in at 2:15.23 in the 800m, while Flo Vazquez ran the 3000m in a "B" standard time of 10:37.13, marking a new ERAU record. Also qualifying for nationals was Julie Mayfield, a transfer from TCU, who raced her way to a 10th place finish in the mile, crossing the line in 5:15.03.
The women's distance medley relay team was also successful on the weekend, picking up a "B" standard and second place in a time of 12:46.99.
Freshman Breanna Goring set an ERAU record in the 55m hurdles with a time of 9.68 and Nikki Lykens bested her own school record in the weight throw with a distance of 11.41m.
The Eagles next event will be held in Newport News, Va. on Feb. 5-6 at the Vince Brown Invitational hosted by Christopher Newport University, before closing out the indoor track regular season at the ERAU Last Chance meet in Daytona Beach, Fla. on Feb. 19.
