DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The fourth-ranked Embry-Riddle women's
tennis team notched its third conference win of the year with an 8-1 win over
ninth-ranked Savannah College of Art and Design on Sunday. The win marked the
Eagles first regular season victory over the Bees since the 2005 season and
improved their overall record to 6-3 on the year. SCAD is now 6-1 overall and 5-1
in The Sun Conference.
Embry-Riddle took the first doubles matches quickly as Natasa Zoricic and Yi Ching Chen downed Courtney Collins and Romina Mrochen 8-1 at No.
1 doubles, followed by Josefine Strom and Julija Stojkovska's 8-2 defeat of
Hillary Collins and Nisha Michau at No. 2.
The match at the third doubles position was a back-and-forth
battle that had to be decided in a tiebreaker after the teams split the first 16 games. Sara Abraul and Caroline Nilsson
fell behind 5-2 in the tie breaker but rallied to win the set and the match 8-6
to put the Eagles up 3-0 heading into singles play.
Stojkovska made quick work of Michau at No. 4 singles,
walking away with a 6-1, 6-1 win. Nilsson was the next to finish her singles
match, downing Mrochen 6-1, 6-3 to clinch the Eagle win.
The Eagles' next match will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday when
they host NCAA II No. 4 Valdosta State.
