Eagles Hit Eight Standards in First Outdoor Meet

TAMPA, Fla. -- The Embry-Riddle men's and women's track teams combined for eight qualifying standards at the USF Bulls Invitational in Tampa on Friday, March 19, marking the first meet of the Eagles' outdoor season.

Freshman Leon Robinson highlighted the day's events, hitting "A" standards in both the 100m and 200m, clocking in at 10.66 and 21.69, respectively.

Also preliminarily qualifying for the NAIA Outdoor National Championship on the men's side was Bobby Thomas, Spencer Wade, and the combined 4x400m relay team of Brian Laing, Kevin Bray, Mallory Jackson, and Laquardo Newbold.

Thomas set an ERAU school record in the hammer throw with a distance of 49.21m and qualfied under a "B" standard, while Wade's performance in the pole vault landed him a "B" standard height of 4.75m, good for a new school record.

The men's 4x400m relay team raced their way to a "B" standard time of 3:18.72.

On the women's side, freshman Samia Adan continues her dominant performances on the track, as she hit an "A" standard in the 800m in a personal best time of 2:11.01. Flo Vazquez ran the 5000m in a school record time of 18:02.69 and also qualfied under an "A" standard time, while newcomer Julie Mayfield competed in her first steeplechase event wearing the Blue and Gold and finished with a "B" standard time of 11:42.17, landing herself a spot in the ERAU record books.

Also performing well for the Eagles was Breanna Goring who recorded a school record time in the 100m hurdles with a time of 15.62. Also setting new ERAU records were Reta Woodard and Thomas, both in the discus.

Several Eagle athletes recorded personal best times on the day, including Andrew Maro in the steeplechase, Laing in the 400m, Goring in the 200m, Brian Ray in the 200m, and Adam Szablowski in the shot put and javelin.
