DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Embry-Riddle women's tennis team
extended its overall record to 7-4 by holding off NCAA I Eastern Kentucky 4-3
on Tuesday.
The match, which was played according to NCAA I rules which
counts all three doubles matches as one point, saw the Eagles sweep all three
doubles points. Natasa Zoricic and Yi Ching Chen were the first to finish their
match, topping Myriem Mhirit and Jessica Albuquerque 8-2. Caroline Nilsson and Landyn Scudder followed with an 8-5 victory over Alyze Pagal and Catarina Branco at
No. 3 and Julija Stojkovska and Sara Abraul completed the sweep with an 8-6 win
over Anouk Favre and Anais Hamel at No. 2.
Chen was the first off the court in singles, downing
Albuquerque 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2. Zoricic was close behind with a 6-3, 6-1 over
Mhirit and No. 1 and Nilsson clinched the Eagle victory after bouncing back
from a 6-0 loss in the first set to top Favre 6-4, 6-2 in the remaining two
sets.
The Lady Colonels earned victories in the bottom three spots
of the line-up as Pagal topped Stojkovska 6-4, 4-6, 10-7, Hamel downed Abraul
6-3, 6-4 and Esmira Gheisary bested Scudder 6-3, 6-4.
The Eagles will be back in action at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday
when they host Southern Illinois-Edwardsville at the Crotty Tennis Complex.
