ORLANDO, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle men's tennis team fell 9-0 to the University of Central Florida in the Eagles' season finale on Tuesday. The Knights, ranked 69th in the latest ITA/NCAA Division I poll, improved the overall record to 11-8, while the third-ranked Eagles closed out regular season play with a 16-5 mark.
Playing according to NAIA scoring rules, the Knights jumped out to a 3-0 lead after sweeping all three doubles matches. The ERAU tandem of
Jan Hoekzema and
Alexis Heugas put forth a valiant effort at the No. 1 doubles spot, but UCF's Marc Rocafort and Blaze Schwartz were able to hold off the Eagle duo to complete the sweep.
Embry-Riddle sophomore
Charlie Rice put in a solid effort at the fourth singles position but was unable to get by Claudio Romano who won the match 3-6, 6-3, 10-4.
The Eagles now turn their attention to The Sun Conference tournament which gets underway on Saturday in Savannah, Ga. The Eagles are the No. 1 seed and will face No. 4 SCAD in the semifinals slated for 2 p.m.
