Women?s Tennis Through to Conference Finals

SAVANNAH, Ga. – After exiting in the semifinals in 2009, the top-seeded Embry-Riddle women's tennis team advanced to the title match of The Sun Conference tournament with a 5-0 shutout of fourth-seeded St. Thomas, Saturday at the Bacon Park Tennis Courts. The Eagles will face No. 2 Northwood in the championship as the Seahawks downed tournament host Savannah College of Art and Design 5-3 to advance.

The sixth-ranked Eagles wasted little time claiming the lead as Sara Abraul and Caroline Nilsson topped Camille Allen and Alina Ramirez 8-1 at the third doubles spot. Natasa Zoricic and Yi Ching Chen followed with an 8-0 defeat of Manuela Gil and Ydsia Quintero at the top spot in the doubles lineup and the Eagles' No. 2 duo of Josefine Strom and Julija Stojkovska bested Bridget Castillo and Stephanie Pfeffer 8-1 for a 3-0 ERAU advantage heading into singles.

Chen was the first to finish her singles match after scoring a 6-0, 6-0 shutout of Castillo at No. 2 singles and Strom, playing at the fifth position in the singles lineup, followed close behind with a shutout of her own against Allen to clinch the victory.

Embry-Riddle and Northwood finished in a three-way tie with SCAD for the regular season title. The battle for the tournament crown begins at 10 a.m. on Sunday.
