DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle men's tennis team rebounded from a tough loss on Thursday to top No. 25 Oklahoma Baptist 8-1, Saturday at the Crotty Tennis Complex. The win brings the Embry-Riddle record to 7-5, while the Bison fall to 3-4.
A sweep in doubles propelled the Blue and Gold to a 3-0 lead heading into singles play.
Chris Freeman was back in action on Saturday following a short-lived illness and teamed up with
Jan Hoekzema for an 8-4 win over Gonzalo Garza nd Michael Canavan at No. 1 doubles. They were followed by
Peter Francis and
Simon Felix who topped Augustin Janssen and Tucker Olsen 8-2 at the third doubles spot.
Adrian Bayh and
Patrick Besch completed the sweep with an 8-3 victory over Dario Macanovic and Francisco DeSilva.
ERAU Head Coach
David Paschal opted to rest Hoekzema and Besch in singles play and once the Eagles clinched the win, Bayh sat out as well giving the Bison a point due to default at the No. 6 singles spot.
Playing his first match of the season at No. 3 singles, Felix made quick work of Canavan, winning 6-0, 6-2. Spennare scored the clincher for the Eagles in his first match at the fourth spot, downing DeSilva 6-2, 6-0 and was followed off the court by Francis who topped Macanovic 6-4, 6-3 at No. 2.
After Freeman bested Garza 6-4, 6-4 at the top singles spot, Sean de la Bastide earned his second dual match singles win of the year with a 6-0, 6-2 defeat of Janssen at the fifth position.
The Eagles will be back in action on Monday for a twin bill, beginning with Northwestern Ohio at 10 a.m. and ending with an exhibition match against Coastal Georgia at 3:30 p.m.
