Eagles Sit Sixth at Thomas Invitational

Sophomore Jonathan Kopsell led the way for the Eagles with a 72 on Monday.



VALDOSTA, Ga. - The Embry-Riddle men's golf team teed off in its' second event of the 2012-13 season on Monday, finishing the first round of the Thomas Invitational in sixth-place overall. The Eagles and the other nine teams participating at the Kinderlou Country Club will play their final round tomorrow.

The Eagles, who started the year with a fourth-place showing at the Webber Invitational on Sept. 24, shot a 306 on Monday, placing in front of three Sun Conference squads: Southeastern (308), Webber International (310), and SCAD Savannah (315).

Jonathan Kopsell shot a 72, his second-best round of the year to lead the charge for the Blue and Gold, while Kristofer Karlsson's 75 and Willy Wilner's 78 were second and third respectively for Embry-Riddle.

Senior Kevin O'Leary fired an 81 and Henrik Petersson shot an 82 to round out the Eagle scorers.

South Carolina Beaufort leads all 10 teams after round one, shooting a 285 for a 10-stroke lead over the second-place team Southern Wesleyan (295). Darton (298) and host Thomas (299) are third and fourth while Coastal Georgia sits fifth with a 301.
