DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle volleyball team lost a pair of hard-fought matches on Saturday, falling to fifth-ranked Oklahoma Baptist, 3-1 (25-27, 25-27, 25-22, 25-23), before losing to No. 21 Eastern Oregon, 3-1 (25-23, 18-25, 25-20, 25-15).
 
With the losses, the Eagles fall to 2-3 on the season, while OBU improves to 6-2 and EOU moves to 9-2.
 
Embry-Riddle opened up a 13-5 lead in the first set, but the Bison battled back with a 13-5 run of their own to take a 25-24 lead. The Eagles bounced back with three straight kills from Jennifer Beatty to take the set, 27-25.
 
After Oklahoma Baptist jumped out to a 13-6 advantage in the second set the Eagles chipped away, eventually using a 7-1 run to take an 18-17 lead. A Beatty kill gave the Blue and Gold set point at 25-24, but OBU responded with three straight points to win the set, 27-25, tying the match at one set apiece.
 
The Eagles looked to be in control of the third set, owning a 19-12 advantage after scoring six straight points. But from that point, Oklahoma Baptist outscored ERAU 13-3 to win the set, 25-22, taking a 2-1 lead in the match.
 
OBU jumped out to a 7-2 lead in set four, but back-to-back kills from Beatty sparked a 14-3 spurt that pushed the Eagles in front, 16-10. Kristin Pressley put down back-to-back kills to ignite a 10-2 run for the Bison, tipping the scales back in favor of OBU, 20-18. Emily Jacobson's kill gave the Eagles a 23-22 lead, but after a Bison timeout, Oklahoma Baptist scored three straight points to win the set, 25-23, clinching a 3-1 victory in the match.
 
Beatty led the Eagles with 20 kills to go along with 15 digs, while Taylor Ruiz added 15 kills and 14 digs. Hannah Gray led all players with 36 digs and Tamires Ferreira tallied a match-high 50 assists in addition to picking up 17 digs.
 
Pressley led all players with 25 kills and added 20 digs while Alison Mauch chipped in with 11 kills. Patricia Moura had eight kills and seven blocks, which tied her with Catherine Roth for a match high. Valerie Stetzer led the Bison with 23 digs while Aysegul Guney (28 assists, 12 digs) and Rachel Aguilar (18 assists, 14 digs) shared the setting duties.

In the nightcap, the Eagles and Mountaineers played a nip and tuck first set, with neither side leading by more than three points at any time. Jacobson and Caitlyn Ballard combined for a double block that put the Blue and Gold ahead, 19-16. EOU responded with four straight points to take a 20-19 lead, but the Eagles rallied back to hold a 23-22 advantage. A pair of Embry-Riddle attack errors gave the Mountaineers set point and they capitalized with a kill from Stefani Sorenson to close out the set with a 25-23 win.
 
After falling behind 10-5 in the second set, ERAU went on a 15-5 run that included four kills and a block from Beatty to take a 20-15 lead. The Blue and Gold closed out the frame with five consecutive points thanks to four EOU errors, winning the set, 25-18, to tie the match at one set apiece.
 
Taylor Ruiz put down back-to-back kills to give Embry-Riddle a 12-6 lead in the third set, only to see Eastern Oregon go on a 15-3 run to take over the lead, 21-15. A Ruiz kill pulled the Eagles to within three points at 22-19, but that was as close as they would get, falling 25-20 to give EOU a 2-1 lead in the match.
 
The Mountaineers ran out to a 10-4 advantage in the fourth set and never looked back. Eastern Oregon hit a blistering .419 in the set en route to a 25-15 win, clinching the 3-1 match win.
 
Beatty and Ruiz led the Eagles with 16 kills apiece; Beatty added 15 digs while Ruiz had 11 digs. Ballard chipped in with seven kill and 10 digs. Gray led all players with 30 digs and Ferreira registered a match-high 39 assists to go along with 17 digs and four blocks (one solo).
 
Sorensen put down a match-high 19 kills while hitting .436 and picking up 14 digs. Jessalynn Smith led the Mountainteers with 23 digs while Karly Stack (28 assists, 14 digs) and Bobbi Sumpter (13 assists, eight digs) shared the setting duties.
 
The Eagles will be back in action next weekend at the Wesleyan Hughes Classic hosted by Texas Wesleyan in Fort Worth, Texas. Embry-Riddle is slated to play No. 3 Texas at Brownsville on Friday, Sept. 6 at 3 p.m. EDT followed by an 8 p.m. EDT contest against the host school, Texas Wesleyan.
