FORT WORTH, Texas – The tenth-ranked Embry-Riddle volleyball team climbed over the .500 mark with a pair of wins on Saturday at the Wesleyan Hughes Classic hosted by Texas Wesleyan University in Fort Worth, Texas. The Blue and Gold handed Rocky Mountain its first loss of the season in four sets (25-16, 25-17, 18-25, 25-19) before sweeping Lewis-Clark State, 3-0 (25-19, 25-19, 25-22).

With the wins, ERAU improves to 5-4 on the season while RMC fell to 8-1 and LCSC dropped to 5-8.

The Eagles led from the get-go against the Battlin' Bears, thanks in part to a pair of service aces from Tamires Ferreira that helped Embry-Riddle take an early 5-0 lead. Rocky Mountain fought back to close the deficit to just two points (18-16), but Emily Jacobson's solo block sparked a 7-0 run to finish the frame at 25-16 in favor of the Eagles.

In the second set, Jacobson and Ferreira teamed up for a double block that put the Eagles ahead, 10-4, giving ERAU control of the set. A Taylor Ruiz service ace made it 20-11 and a double block from Leslie Roper and Cailey Washington closed out the set at 25-17, giving Embry-Riddle a 2-0 lead in the match.

The third set was an entirely different affair; after ERAU led every single point of the first two sets, the third frame featured 14 ties and seven lead changes. Ferreira put down a kill to give the Blue and Gold a 9-7 lead, but the Battlin' Bears came right back to take an 11-10 advantage. Ruiz registered a kill that made it 15-14 Eagles, but a 6-1 run put RMC on top, 20-16. Rocky Mountain finished off the set with a 25-18 win, extending the match to a fourth set with the Eagles still leading, two sets to one.

Set four started out nip and tuck with neither side leading by more than two through the first 14 points. A quick 3-0 spurt that included a pair of Caitlyn Ballard kills grew the Eagle lead to 13-8 and a 4-0 run that featured two Ferreira kills built the margin to 18-12. Ruiz finished off the set with a kill to end things at 25-19, closing out the match with the Eagles winning, 3-1.

Ruiz led all players with 15 kills while Morgan Shattuck added 12 kills. Jennifer Beatty registered a double-double with 14 kills and 12 digs and Ballard chipped in with 10 digs and six kills. Ferreira tallied a match-high 49 assists to go along with 13 kills, five digs and match-leading five service aces while Hannah Gray picked up a match-best 30 digs.

Anna Dewald led RMC with 13 kills and a .407 hitting percentage while also leading all players with seven blocks. Tori Bertsch led the team with 28 assists and Kylie Nielsen collected a team-high 12 digs.
