LAKELAND, Fla. - The Embry-Riddle men's soccer team traveled to Southeastern on Tuesday evening, coming back from a one-goal deficit at the half to send the game to extra time, but neither team could find the game-winner in the overtime periods as the squads drew, 1-1. The Eagles (2-2-3) went to 2-1-1 in Sun Conference play, grabbing a point from the contest, while the Fire (7-3-2) moved to 1-2-2 in league action.
ERAU continues its roadtrip with a Friday match at Ave Maria, slated for a 3 p.m. start time.
Senior
Veit Couturier scored his team and conference-leading eighth goal of the season less than three minutes into the second period to knot the score at 1-1, and despite both teams having eight shots on frame and numerous scoring chances over the final 60 minutes of game play, that proved to be the final tally in the contest.
The Eagles fell behind in the 21st minute when a defensive miscue led to a breakaway opportunity for the Fire and Ashton Hicks slipped a shot past
Nils Carlson for a 1-0 SEU lead.
Embry-Riddle was slow in developing offensive chances in the contest, not getting a shot until
Lewis Blackmore's chance in the 26th minute sailed high.
ERAU managed just two more shots in the period, with
Jordan Thorpe's at the 37:35 mark showing great velocity, but going high.
The second half proved to be more to the Blue and Gold's liking as the visitors enjoyed an 8-5 shot advantage, however, David Danahy and his defense turned the Eagles away after Couturier's goal in the 48th minute.
Each side offered two shots in the first overtime, and in the second, both teams had solid opportunities to escape with the win. Carlson came up big in the 102nd minute when Camillo Mejia'a shot nearly found the back up the net, and Couturier almost headed home the game-winner in the 108th minute off a corner kick that Danahy seemed to come out of nowhere to stop.
60 total fouls were called in the contest while both keepers made seven saves.
