TEMPLE TERRACE, Fla. - 10 different Eagles scored and nine different players recorded an assist as the Embry-Riddle women's basketball team earned a 90-35 victory at Florida College in the program's first-ever road contest. The Eagles now stand at 2-0 on the season, while the Falcons dropped to 0-5.
Sabrina Whiting, a native of Temple Terrace, enjoyed a bit of a homecoming, leading all players with 19 points on 7-of-14 shooting, including 5-of-10 from beyond the arc. Kalah Martin and Ashlé Muse each chipped in 16 points, while Martin had a game-high five assists. Taylor Cyphers added seven points and was one of four Eagles to pull down a team-high seven rebounds.
Laurie Beaty led the Falcons with nine points while Hayley Todd grabbed a game-high nine boards.
After a slow start in the game's opening minutes, Embry-Riddle went on a 26-1 run to blow the game open, running out to a 28-5 lead just over midway through the first half. The Eagles held a 46-19 advantage at the break after outshooting FC 47.6% to 25.9%.
The Blue and Gold didn't let up in the second half, starting the period on a 23-7 spurt that built the lead up to 43 points (69-26) with 11:40 to play. The margin never dipped below 40 for the duration of the contest; the Eagles pushed it to 50 points (85-35) on an Allison Abbot jumper with 1:34 to go. ERAU didn't allow the Falcons to score for the final 3:27 of the game as the Eagles cruised to a 90-35 win.
Embry-Riddle outrebounded Florida College 55-40 and outscored the Falcons 36-6 in the paint. ERAU also had 25 steals in the game, forcing a total of 34 FC turnovers. The Blue and Gold shot 43.5% from the field, including 13-of-35 (37.1%) from downtown.
The Eagles will have a couple of weeks off before returning to the court on Tuesday, Nov. 25 to host NCAA II Puerto Rico-Mayaguez at 7 p.m.
