@ERAUMSoccer Falls in Overtime to NCAA II Rollins, 2-1

WINTER PARK, Fla. - The Embry-Riddle men's soccer team has played three games in 2014, all three against NCAA II opponents and all three have needed more than the 90 allotted minutes in regulation to decide as the Eagles fell to preseason No. 3 Rollins, 2-1 on Wednesday. Despite scoring first for the third time in as many matches, the Eagles surrendered an 87th minute equalizer to the Tars before Rollins sent ERAU to its first loss of the year with a golden goal in the 95th minute.

Embry-Riddle (0-1-2) took a first half lead thanks to Veit Couturier's third goal of the year, but couldn't hold on as Rollins (3-2) got a pair of scores from Brett Durrance in the comeback victory.

ERAU travels to Northwood on Wednesday, Sept. 24 for a 4 p.m. contest against the Seahawks in Sun Conference action.

Couturier's goal came in the 40th minute following several minutes of pressure from the Tars' offense. Daniel Gylfason got the ball in the Eagles' defensive half and after dribbling into the opposing half laced a perfect pass to a streaking Couturier down the left-hand side of the pitch. Couturier's pace was enough for him to get possession of the pass and slip a shot past keeper Julian Grundler to the far post, giving the Blue and Gold the advantage on the scoreboard.

The action took some time to pick up in the opening moments of the contest as neither team registered a shot until Jordan Thorpe shot wide left in the 10th minute.

As both teams felt each other out, the Tars had a good opportunity in the 15th minute as Nils Carlson punched out a cross that eventually led to a Rollins' shot that went just high to keep the game scoreless.

Couturier had a chance to put the Eagles up even earlier in the half after he beat the defense in the 20th minute, but Grundler easily saved his shot.

Lewis Blackmore had a solid shot with 23 minutes remaining in the first half, but his attempt glanced off the near post out of bounds.

Carlson fully extended to his left to save a Tars' shot with 18 minutes left and had to push a shot over the crossbar a few minutes later.

Rollins outshot the visitors 10-5 in the period with a 3-2 advantage in shots on goal. The Tars also earned seven corners to just one for the Blue and Gold in the opening period.

The hosts turned up the offensive intensity in the second half, outshooting the Eagles 15-6 in the frame, but it wasn't until 86:17 showed on the clock that the Tars found the back of the net.

Off a corner kick, the Tars got a shot from Sebastian Walker that was saved, but the rebound found Durrance on the left side of the box and he slipped a shot under Carlson to tie the game at 1-1.

The game-tying score came after multiple Tar chances were turned away by Carlson and the ERAU defense. With just over seven minutes left in the contest it looked like Rollins would find their first score  when Grant Blackhurst looked destined for goal on his attempt, but a clearance off the line kept the Eagles in front until the 87th minute score.

The game-winner by Durrance was setup by Blackhurst and Marten Mueller as the ball was taken to the end line by the tars before  a flick backwards found Durrance's feet and he finished to the far post.

Rollins owned a 26-12 advantage in shots and 13-5 in corner kicks as Carlson made six saves on the night and Grundler registered five.
