@ERAUWBasketball Earns 75-56 Victory Over Northwood

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Four Eagles reached double-figures in scoring and the Embry-Riddle women's basketball team dominated the boards, outrebounding the visiting Northwood Seahawks 47-28, as ERAU returned to the win column with a 75-56 victory on Wednesday night.

With the win, Embry-Riddle improved to 13-6 and 5-4 in conference, while Northwood dropped to 4-14, 3-6 in league play.

Sabrina Whiting led the Eagles with 15 points and a game-high 12 rebounds, while Mercedes Jorge posted her seventh double-double of the year with 11 points and 11 boards. Taylor Cyphers tallied 12 points and nine rebounds and Kalah Martin chipped in 11 points on 4-of-7 shooting.

Emily May led NU with a game-high 23 points and a team-leading five rebounds while Stephanie Granada contributed 12 points and a game-high four assists.

From the opening tip, the Eagles looked to be the better side. The Blue and Gold scored the first five points of the game and had built a 9-2 lead just over four minutes into the contest.

Hannah Carine scored a layup with 9:45 left in the half to put ERAU ahead, 18-12, and a Taylor Cyphers layup two minutes later made it a 21-14 game.

The Seahawks rallied to cut the Eagle lead to just two points (21-19) before Embry-Riddle went on a 15-4 run to build the margin up to 13 (36-23) with less than two minutes to play in the period.

Northwood seized back the momentum, holding the Blue and Gold scoreless in the closing two minutes while scoring the final six points of the half, trimming the deficit to 36-29 at the break.

Much like they did in the first half, the Eagles dominated the opening minutes of the second period, scoring the first seven points to reclaim a double-digit lead (43-29). Within five minutes, the Blue and Gold had broken the game open, building a 17-point advantage (48-31).

Martin converted a three-point play with 7:26 to play that pushed the ERAU lead above 20 points (64-42) for the first time, and within a minute the Eagles had their biggest lead of the game at 25 points (68-43).

Embry-Riddle maintained a comfortable margin over the final minutes, cruising to a 75-56 victory.

The Eagles return to the court on Saturday, Jan. 31 when they travel to Miami Shores for a doubleheader against Florida Memorial. Both games will be played at Barry University's Health & Sports Center, with the women tipping off at 5 p.m. and the men's game scheduled for 7 p.m.
