No. 4 Palm Beach Atlantic Tops @ERAUMSOCCER 2-0

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle Eagles traveled to take on the No. 4 Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish on Wednesday night. For the fourth consecutive game the Eagles held their opponent scoreless at the half. However, the Sailfish added two goals in the second half to top the Eagles, 2-0. PBA remains undefeated on the year at 13-0-1 while the Eagles drop to 2-8.

The Eagles started the game ready to play against the fourth-ranked side, holding much of the possession early on. ERAU was able to create a couple of chances in the starting minutes. PBA was whistled for a foul about 30 yards out and Daniel Gylfason took the free kick. He fed a pass to Pierre Hertin down the line but it ran out of bounds.

In the third minute, Ali Amiri dribbled around the midfield and was able to rip a shot that deflected off a Sailfish defender for a corner kick. The ensuing corner kick was curving in due to the windy conditions but was punched away by the PBA goalkeeper, Steven Raymont.

Jeff Bone collected a sailing shot in the 34th minute and sent the ball out forward where it dropped just outside the box. Sean Meade found the ball for what was the Eagles best chance of the half. He powered it towards net, but Raymont was able to get a hand on it to knock it down and make the save.

Meade had another opportunity just minutes later as he nearly got on the end of a pass from Hertin but he just missed the ball as he slid to reach it.

To end the half, PBA began to bring the ball towards net with chances in the box but the ERAU defenders and goalkeeper Bone were able to knock it away and block the shots to hold onto a 0-0 tie at halftime.

The Sailfish broke the even score line in the 54th minute of the game. Cameron Roberts found the back of the net as he hammered in a shot from just outside the top of the box.

PBA upped its lead to 2-0 in the 58th minute as Lucas Kuscevic scored on a penalty kick.

The Eagles continued to press hard for a goal and were nearly rewarded in the 75th minute. Tobias Gerber crossed the ball into the box and found Felix Lohmeyer.  He was able to get his head on it but the ball directed right into the arms of the Sailfish goalkeeper, Raymont.

In the 80th minute, the Eagles were dangerous again as Gylfason fed a long pass to a sprinting Collin Archer on the left side. He was dragged down in the box and ERAU was awarded a penalty kick. Gerber took the chance toward the left post but Raymont made a save to knock it out for a corner kick and secure the 2-0 win for the Sailfish.

The Eagles return home for the next match, a game with Lynn on Saturday, Oct. 24 at 7pm.
