Stetson and Embry_Riddle following the Battle of I-4.
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle men's golf team competed on Sunday in the second annual Battle of I-4 against Stetson. The Ryder Cup style event was a 36-hole competition. The first 18 holes were contested in a best ball format while the following 18 were alternate shot. The Hatters won the event in the second round of play.
Following the first round, the Eagles were up 2.5 to 1.5 over the Hatters. Three Eagle teams won or were square over their competitors. The team of
Tyler Green and
Adam LaGrange as well as
Patrick Byrne and
Thomas Garnier won their matches while
Timothy Coles and
James Pitenis ended tied.
In the second round, the Hatters were the better side. They won all four matches to claim the title, 5.5 to 2.5, over the Eagles.
"It was a good match for us," said Head Coach
Ken Staton. "All of the play was very close during the first 18 but Stetson was just better in the afternoon."
This marks the end of the fall season for Embry-Riddle. The Eagles resume play in 2016 to compete in the Titan Invitational on February 8-9.
