@ERAUBaseball Falls in World Series Semifinals to Host Lewis-Clark State, 2-0

LEWISTON, Idaho - The final NAIA contest in Embry-Riddle Athletics' history came in the 2015 Avista-NAIA World Series semifinals, but the sixth-seeded Eagles couldn't solve Ty Jackson as the right-hander led the host team Lewis-Clark State to a 2-0 victory, ending ERAU's season. Embry-Riddle (41-19) got a masterful outing from starter Tyler Cyr, but Jackson held the Eagles at bay, shutting out the Blue and Gold for the first time in 2015.

LCSC (44-12) eliminated ERAU from the World Series for the second time in three seasons, but each team was held scoreless in the first five frames as Cyr and Jackson matched each other out for out. Jackson finally broke through himself, sending a ball over the center field fence in the home-half of the sixth for a 1-0 lead before the Warriors added on an insurance run in the eighth.

Cyr (7-5) was nearly unhittable early, allowing just two hits in the first five innings, fanning six LCSC batters while keeping the hosts off the scoreboard. Unfortunately for the Eagles, Jackson was equally as good, getting some crucial outs early in the contest when the Eagles threatened to score.

ERAU put runners one the corners in the third after Tobias Moreno singled through the right side with Kyle Zirbes on base, but a ground ball double play ended the frame as Jackson kept it scoreless.

Embry-Riddla again threatened in the sixth thanks to a throwing error by Jackson on a sac bunt attempt by Jake Cavender as Moreno and Cavender both reached safely. However, another sac bunt attempt resulted in the lead runner thrown out a third before a fly out and ground ball sent the game to the last of the sixth with still no runs for ERAU.

After two quick outs in the bottom of the sixth, Jackson took a 1-2 pitch over the wall in center for what would prove to be the only run LCSC would need.

Embry-Riddle stranded more runners in the seventh with runners at first and third with one out, but a strikeout and groundout from Jackson again frustrated the Blue and Gold offense.

The Warriors loaded the bases in the eighth with no outs, but Cyr was able to minimize the damage to just one run as LCSC took a 2-0 lead.

Warrior closer Beau Kerns made quick work of the Eagles in the ninth, ending the NAIA era for Embry-Riddle.

Cyr tossed 8.0 innings, allowing two runs on five hits with nine strikeouts. Moreno finished 2-for-4 as the only Eagle with multiple hits.

The Eagles made their 13th and final trip to the NAIA World Series, winning The Sun Conference Tournament title and the Opening Round - Daytona Beach Bracket along the way.

Embry-Riddle, who will begin play in the NCAA II and the Sunshine State Conference beginning next season, finished its NAIA affiliation with 1,058 wins, 15 Sun Conference regular season championships, six Sun Conference Tournament titles, 17 NAIA postseason appearances and 13 World Series trips (third-most all-time).

Seven seniors suited up for the final time on Wednesday: Hunter Bruehl, Kyle Buchanan, Jake Cavender, Clayton Wagner, Zac Grotz, Brett Allen and Stetson Nelson will graduate from the Embry-Riddle baseball program after continuing and adding to the tradition of 27 seasons of Eagle baseball.
