Game Recap: #8 Women's Soccer |

@ERAUWomen’s Soccer Bests Palm Beach Atlantic 1-0

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – A single goal in the first half was all the Embry-Riddle women's soccer team needed to secure its first road win of the season on Wednesday. Playing at Palm Beach Atlantic's Rinker Complex, the Eagles scored the game's only goal in the 38th minute to top the Sailfish (4-6-1) 1-0 and improve their season record to 7-3-1.

The Eagles bested the Sailfish in every offensive category, including a 15-6 advantage in shots and a lopsided 12-1 advantage in corner kicks.

The first 10 minutes of the game were evenly contested as both teams worked to establish their respective offensive sets. However, as the half wore on, the tide slowly shifted in the Eagles' favor and they kept the Sailfish pinned in their defensive half of the pitch for much of the remainder of the period.

At the 37:07 mark, the Eagles won their fifth corner of the match. Gudrun Johnson stepped up to take the set piece and drove the ball into the box where it was met by Andrea Froshaug on the near side. Froshaug headed home her fifth goal of the season to put the Blue and Gold up 1-0.

ERAU continued to pressure the Sailfish defense in the second frame and created several opportunities to score. Despite having the majority of the possession and creating several dangerous chances, the Eagles were not able to find the back of the net again.

In the final minute of the contest, the Sailfish won a free kick five yards outside the penalty area. Shannon Berg took the kick and sent a dangerous ball toward the goal. Despite being screened by just about all the players on the pitch, ERAU goalkeeper Fanny Kristiansson came up with a game-saving stop, pushing the ball out of danger to help seal the Eagle win.

"Tonight was good performance by our group," ERAU Head Coach Samantha Bohon said. "I thought Isabelle [Haaranen] and Andrea were dangerous up top and created some fantastic scoring opportunities, especially in the second half. Our team has elevated its intensity and commitment to defend all over the field these last two games, and I believe they're seeing the effects of this commitment in our play and overall results.  I was nervous when we didn't put in another goal or two during the second half as Chris [Gnehm] did a good job of keeping his team in the game. But, we're excited to earn another shutout and get ready for Senior Night and Lynn."

The Eagles return home on Saturday to host Lynn at the ERAU Soccer Stadium.  Prior to kick-off at 6 p.m. the Eagles will honor the 2016 senior class.
